Afro-Americans, Haitians, Jamaicans, Puerto Ricans, Brazilians and even American Indians are apparently the true Jews, due to their ancestry and blood ties. At least that’s what these New Yorkers squatting an intersection affirm. A passer-by feels this theory doesn’t seem very kosher, and has no qualms about sharing his view with those who maintain they are the real descendants of Israel. Tensions mount, arguments burst forth, but there’s no throat slitting, no bomb blasting. This surrealistic debate about the ten lost tribes of Israel is shrouded by the ongoing clamour of everyday life. I love New York.

C’est du moins ce que soutiennent ces New-Yorkais qui squattent un carrefour de Manhattan. Un passant ne trouve pas cette théorie très orthodoxe et n’hésite pas à le dire à ceux qui se réclament les vrais descendants d’Israël. Le ton monte, les arguments fusent, pourtant personne ne s’égorge ni ne fait sauter de bombe ; le débat surréaliste sur les dix tribus perdues d’Israël est couvert par le tumulte de la vie d’aujourd’hui.
